The first major experiment of my PhD is focused on determining how Acanthocephalan parasitism (specifically Polymoprhus minutus) affects energy flow though ecologically important shredders (Gammarus duebeni) at an individual level across a range of temperatures that mimics an Irish lake ecosystem. Preliminary results highlight the importance of individual variation and the effect of temperature in energy budgets . This work also included measurements of the effects of temperature on behavioral modification and highlights the impact of both trophic and non-trophic interactions on whole ecosystems.
